Eta Kappa Chapter

 

Section 1 – Overview

The Eta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Nu will hereby follow the rules and guidelines set forth by The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity.  Punishments and sanctions will be handed down the Judicial Board of the Chapter.

 

Section 2 – Judicial Board

2.1              The board is to be made of up of one member from each pledge class, with a minimum of three members on the board and maximum of five members.  The Lieutenant Commander shall oversee the meetings but may not vote unless there is a tie.  The members of the Board are allowed to vote for or against the charge or may abstain.

2.2              The Board is to decide what the punishment is for the offense committed.  The punishment must fit the wrong doing and cannot be unusual or extensive, e.g. if a brother throws/breaks a bottle, his punishment should not be expulsion unless he has been frequently warned before or he continually does so without any disregard.

2.3              The Judicial Board is not to meet unless a charge is brought forth and then a meeting shall be set.

 

Section 3 – Charges

3.1              A Brother may file a written compliant to the L.C. who then decides if the offensive is serious enough to bring together the board.

3.2              A Judicial Board member may bring the charge up to the L.C.

3.3              If a Brother reports a formal compliant to the L.C., he must do so within a week of the occurrence.

3.4              If a Brother reports the incident to a member of the Judicial Board, the member must notify the L.C. within a week.

 

Section 4 – Punishments

If members break any laws or rules the following punishments maybe handed down by the Judicial Board.  These are not the only punishments that can be given.

-          Social Probation

-          Volunteer Hours

-          Formal Apology to the Chapter

-          Expulsion

-          Suspension

-          Mandatory Study Hours

-          Alcohol Prohibition/Designated Driver responsibilities for 21yr old & up Brothers

 

Section 5 – Trial

The Eta Kappa Chapter follows all procedures of The Law when a Trial is needed.  If the Judicial Board decides a punishment should be expulsion, then the Brother is to be brought to Trial.
